I learned so much from participating in the CYS Youth Ensemble. One very unique aspect of CYS that I am so grateful for is the professional level of training that I have been fortunate enough to begin receiving, and I feel very privileged to have begun learning techniques such as Suzuki and Meisner . Last year, I felt very intimidated by the idea of performing Shakespeare and actually understanding it. But once I started, I fell in love with the language and the poetic rhythm Shakespeare creates in all of his texts. CYS made Shakespeare accessible and really fun. I also felt challenged in the best ways during the rehearsal process. I was able to identify both my strengths and weaknesses as an actor.
On a personal level, I found a deeper love of Shakespeare and acting, but the chance to share that love with teens from other schools was unbelievably fulfilling and rewarding. There is something so unique about putting on a show with a group of people from all different backgrounds. CYS has shaped the person I am today and has inspired me to pursue acting as a career. If you get the chance to try out for this company, I could not recommend it more. I am forever grateful to CYS for supporting my journey as a young actor and person.
